A picture's worth a thousand words...

These are photos of Robert Mugabe’s mansion, near Harare. Mugabe’s brutal regime is certainly generating a nice income for him as his people starve and suffer; they now have an average life expectancy of 34 years.

I found an interesting forum post somewhere about this:

Apart from the obvious obscenity of it all, why does someone who entertains such an emphatic hatred of European colonialism dress like (a) white man, affect an upper class British accent, and live in a “white” mansion?

Ostentatious is probably the first word which comes to mind - anyone want to fill me in on the other 999 (or so) words which apply here ?

All that glitters may not be gold, but everything there in those photos which appears to be gold, is.

Another word for all this: disgusting.

I’ve read some news items saying that Mugabe didn’t spend a single cent on this (costing to the hoot of 30+ mil USD). The cost was shared by the Chinese and Koreans, in cash and kind such as timber and other construction materials. There are only debts of gratitude to pay (good as cash via Mugabe’s ways).

There was rumor that this mansion actually belongs to a Mugabe relative, since (as one Mugabe aide says), no one but no one outside of Mugabe’s close circle can get a glimpse of Mugabe’s home. Maybe, that makes sense...

Grace Mugabe, btw, has other mansions in and around Harare, on landgrabbed land.

So, if I may add another applicable word, I’d say SHREWD.

I have a friend from Harare. Apparently if you go anywhere near this mansion at the wrong time of day you will be shot. Survivors will be shot again.

*sigh*

The sheer poetry of receiving comments from both Grace and Mercy is an awesome thing... both cathartic and symbolic.

It’s called ”government”... It’s a few scums parasitizing the masses to fuel their pathetic useless lives...

Humanity needs to boot out government, and redefine humanity, and build a governance system conducive with life, love, and living.. because now all we’ve got is a den of thieves, everywhere, sucking the life out of us, just cuz they can, cuz we let them.. Same goes for ”democracy”...
Democracy is more interested in our money than our lives... Democracy is the experiment that failed us.. and now democracy is slaughtering humans all around the planet, to prevent them from harming themselves with herbal drugs, and to rob their natural resources...
What we’ve got now is Christianity building its proverbial ”hell on earth”, from dismantling ”heaven on earth, just to prove to us that there really is a ”hell”... America is in process of the second Inquisition, slaughtering humans who refuse to believe in Christinsanity...

An interesting perspective.

Mugabe, of course, has slightly misinterpreted the notion of democracy, whatever flaws democracy may in fact exhibit. Democracy is meant to be the rule of people chose by the ”demos”, the people... not the rule of some rich [first link in article]...

The King of Gabon has a mansion which more closely approximates to the Palace of Versailles... this ostentatiousness is apparently a recurring theme.
