A scalawag-in-uniform! These are the rotten eggs that make law enforcement doubly difficult. Definitely, these abusers of authority have to be weeded out of the force, for good.

It’s interesting - that the force catches people like this actually (to my mind) makes them look good. I say this because we can always expect to be witness to people in power succumbing to ”enlightened self interest” (i.e. greed), but that the police can, will and actually do prosecute such individuals is of profound significance to a country’s belief in the efficacy of their justice system.

He was implicated in a 120 million dollar Crystal Methamphetamine (”Ice”) manufacturing conspiracy which sought to import 600 kilograms of a base chemical component for the drug into Australia.

I am struck with that part of your comment that says ”...of profound significance to a country’s belief in the efficacy of their justice system.” I am so far removed from a reality such as this. I am starting to envy countries and people who can actually rely on and trust a trustworthy justice system.

Oh... don’t get me wrong - I don’t think any justice system is truly trustworthy as the axiomatic logic of a legal system is ever and always far removed from the actual concrete instantiation of that system... anything that involves human beings (the fallible and corruptible little monkeys that we are) attempting to apply logical legal, judicial and political systems is bound to be riddled with loopholes and faux pas...

I figure: imperfection is perfection as it is the best that we can (in all pragmatic necessity) ever really do.

That said, although Australia’s system is crap in some ways - I really do feel that the fact that such extreme corruption at such high levels (the organisation of which this fallen policeman was a member has been called ”unaccountable” by some) shows that something, somewhere in the great clunking morass of the legal system at least occasionally works.
